Objectives

  • Establish dynamic and powerful hitting mechanics that are simple to understand and repeat.
  • Focus on improving hitting skills including driving the ball the opposite way and adjusting to the inside pitch and breaking balls.
  • Emphasis will be placed on improving bat speed, improving ball exit speed, and hitting the ball with proper ball flight.
  • Develop the mental approach to hitting to get the most out of each at bat.
  • Focus on external, outcome based learning which has been proven to be far more effective at making improvements over internal, mechanics based approaches.

Areas of Instruction

  • Beginning players will participate in hitting drills to establish and refine their hitting mechanics.
  • Established players will work through drills to improve their hitting skills starting from basic level drills and moving toward advanced techniques.
  • Tee work, front toss, and live batting practice drills will be used to improve each hitter's skill level.
  • Instruction to communicate the mental approach to hitting.
  • Total body, explosive training.
  • Game play to create competition and a challenging environment to improve performance...and add a little fun.

BALL EXIT SPEED is how elite hitters are measured

In our camps last year, we had an average ball exit speed gain of 7 mph with our players.
Why is this important?  Because a 5mph increase leads to 25 more feet of ball flight.

In MLB last year, hitters with a ball exit speed of 100-104 mph had a batting average of .561 on the balls they hit that hard.
Amazingly, balls hit harder than 110 mph translated into a .726 batting average.

The data is undeniable:  the harder you hit the ball, the more success you will have and the further you will advance in the game.

Here's an exercise I conduct at the start of every camp:

You're a coach attending a tryout.
There are 4 kids trying out:

  • 1 has home run power and is putting balls into the parking lot
  • 1 has gap power and is consistently one-hopping the fence
  • 1 consistently hits line drives over the short stop and second baseman that roll to the fence.
  • 1 consistently hits ground balls to the shortstop and second baseman.

In what order do YOU draft those players?
Where in your lineup do YOU bat each of those players?
Which of those players do you want YOUR SON to be?

NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU, BALL EXIT SPEED MATTERS!
